Couples Counseling:

Our romantic relationships play a key role in our lives and wellbeing. When they aren't working well it can affect one profoundly in all areas of their lives. Influenced by the PACT model for couples counseling (Stan Tatkin), Imago therapy (Harville Hendrix) and Emotional Focused Therapy (Sue Johnson) I take a holistic approach towards couples counseling. This approach includes a deep understanding of childhood wounding and attachment dynamics, communication styles and needs, fight- flight and freeze dynamics, and intimacy and sexuality.

In addition to having couples talk to me about the issues they are having, I have couples face each other and bring up the issues that they have to their partner. This experiential approach allows us to slow things down and in real time see and experience what are the underlying triggers or dynamics at play. This approach allows us to drop into the true issues at hand and work through what’s needed to help resolve them.

Good couples counseling can profoundly improve one's quality of life. Frequently, the unresolved pain, brokenness or shortcomings that one has is what triggers their partner and their partners shortcomings and brokenness is what triggers them. By stepping into a couples counseling process one is investing in their relationship but also getting the chance to look at the parts of themselves that this relationship has brought to light for healing. This challenging process can be an opportunity to heal both oneself and their relationship and open up new levels of satisfaction and love. There is no need to wait for years of frustration, hurt and animosity to built up before reaching out for couples counseling. It’s best to reach out before then to help the relationship get the support it needs to succeed and thrive. Please reach out today if you’re experiencing pain or challenges in your romantic relationship. These challenges can include:

  • Communication issues

  • Emotional vulnerability and connection

  • Sexaulity and sexual fulfilment

  • Betrayal and trust issues
